Is there a such thing as over the counter medicine for mild depression?
You should stop protecting your parents! They’re supposed to be protecting you, not the other way around. And besides, this is probably not even their fault. Depression is often a genetic disorder. You can buy St. John’s Wort and SamE (sp?) over the counter, but I wouldn’t even try those without a doctor’s guidance. Just because they’re natural and OTC doesn’t mean they’re safe for everyone (St. John’s Wort made me go psycho). See a psychiatrist before you start experimenting. Listen to him – he’s the expert. If you can’t take fish oil, try some flaxseed oil or borage oil – they can improve your mood. I find that Vitamin C gives me lots of energy (translate = good mood), and good ol’ coffee is a great mood-booster, as long as you don’t overdo it.
