Is there a store or company that sells sugar candy which is good for kids this Halloween?
Halloween candies are scary, what with all those refined sugars, preservatives, dyes and potential allergens. Enter Pure Fun, an organic alternative. Torontonian Luna Roth says she got the brush-off from established manufacturers when she decided to create this line of “better for you” candies. “They told me it was a bit of an oxymoron – candy’s not supposed to be good for you.” Pure Fun sweets are famous for what they don’t contain: GMOs, artificial dyes, dairy, casein, fat, gluten, fake flavours, artificial colours, preservatives, pesticides. They are billed as vegan and kosher pareve, too, and contain politically correct sweeteners such as brown rice syrup. Roth boasts that Princess Margaret Hospital gives them out to chemo patients. Colours are extracted from vegetables such as beets and red cabbage, or spices such as annatto and turmeric. Sources: http://www.thestar.
