I believe it comes from the stereotype in America that black humans love chicken and watermelon. Of course all kinds of humans and aliens love chicken and watermelon but one sometimes connects this with a racist action or comment when it is alluded to by some happening or circumstance. Being that I am an alien american, this does not make sense to me either.
