Is there a standard definition for EHR adoption, such as use of CPOE, online documentation or patient portals?
For the purposes of this FOA, EHR adoption is defined as the basic use of electronic systems to substitute for paper charts — specifically, clinical practice systems which permit patient tracking over time; clinical notes entry; electronic access to test results; and which produce and transmit prescriptions electronically (Health Information Technology in the United States: Where We Stand, ONC and RWJF, 2008.).
