Is there a spiritual dimension to cover-up tattoos?
Well, there are two ways of thinking about it in the world of tattooing. A lot of tattooers think that people should keep the tattoos that they already have on their body, rather than covering them over. That permanence is a big part of the magic and power of tattooing. But I think it’s not up to the tattooer. It’s up to the person and what best represents them in their lives right now and what they are going through. I try not to place judgment on it. Have you ever worked with people who have had some sort of epiphany, and decided that they had to have their skin art reworked to reflect that? I get that all the time. More than half of my work is reworking and fixing up the tattoos. Have you worked with people who consciously used tattooing to heal themselves of addictions or other problems?
