Is there a software FCoE target?

0

There is a SW Target, but it is not well supported. When the initial code was published the initiator and target were the same code. At that early stage of the project the focus was to get the initiator accepted into the Linux kernel. That desire forced the developers to slim down the code and remove any dependencies that would prevent kernel inclusion. The SW Target used another piece of code for its SCSI target infrastructure which is/was still seeking kernel acceptance. Therefore the Open-FCoE code could not continue with this dependency. The code branched at this point and the SW initiator and the SW target were put in different code repositories. Development has continued on the initiator, but SW Target development became stagnant. There is still enough work to do on the initiator that the target isn’t getting any attention. It is the hope of the Open-FCoE developers that we get a supported SW target as soon as resources and time permit.
