Yes, it’s really a road test. You can use your car or sometimes a car that belongs to the driving school (if you took a course). When I went for my driving test, I did the written portion and passed, and then we went on the road. The person from the SAAQ that evaluated me for the road test had me drive down the block, make a left and right turn, made sure I did my seatbelt up and obeyed the speed limit and traffic signs. One of the things they will make you do is parallel park the vehicle. I was told (by others not by the guy giving the exam) that if I hit the curb or if I was more than 18 inches away from the curb, they would actually fail you. So when I went for the test and tried the parallel parking, I realized that I had missed it and told him so, I asked if I could try that again. He told me to go around the block and come back to the same spot. On the second shot, I did the parking test with no problems.
