Is there a simple, objective way to evaluate student technique?
Technique should be evaluated on a daily basis by continuous monitoring and observation of posture, hand position, keystroking, and fingering. Try focusing on one or two techniques each day choosing from the Keyboarding Technique Checklist. A more structured technique check using the Keyboarding Technique Checklist should be given after the students have learned all the keystrokes at the end of Section 5 and again at the end of Section 6. The easiest way to evaluate technique is by using a scoring checklist similar to the one that follows. Using broad-based terms such as acceptable, needs improvement, or unacceptable is more practical in evaluating technique rather than trying to arrive upon a specific letter grade.
