Yes, nVidia provides for this in their GPL’d nvidia-settings (source: ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/nvidia-settings/) program. It is included with the nVidia drivers, and a user-guide is also provided (ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/nvidia-settings-user-guide.txt .
