To demonstrate this concept with school children you can fill a syringe with water and carefully seal the tip so that no air is trapped inside. If done correctly the students shouldn’t be able to push the plunger down. The volume measurements on the syringe show them that the volume of the liquid doesn’t change when it is compressed.
