Is there a reliable company to go to for a termite inspection?
Hi! Unfortunately, there are many variables when it comes to the extent of termite inspections. The inspection can be for sale of the home, a periodic maintenance inspection, or for a particular area that warrants attention; for each, the procedures and costs are very different. There are national chains (Terminex, Orkin, etc.) that offer these services just about anywhere; however, I have found that the best sources are those that are locally-owned. The reason is that those operating primarily in the local area are much more familiar with the type of insects and other issues that need to be addressed within that particular environment. I have had inspections that missed carpenter ants, beetles, and fungus issues, just because they were not aware of localized problem areas. I would also caution you to make sure you have any crawlspaces both above and below your living area inspected; too many times inspectors will avoid these areas, stating that they were inaccessible.
