ASM Lithography was founded as a joint venture between Philips Electronics and ASM International. After incurring heavy start-up losses connected to the development of lithography technology, we sold our share in the joint venture to Philips in 1988. There are no formal ties between the two companies other than that ASM Lithography has a license to use the name ASM.
