Is There a Recommended Dosage of Olive Leaf Extract?
Olive leaf extract (OLE) is a concentration of olive leaves. As such it is not a single compound but a mixture of a range of substances of which the most common and active ingredient is oleuropein. It is therefore not usual to talk about a recommended dosage of olive leaf extract firstly because it is not a single substance and secondly because it is not an essential nutrient. Reputable providers of OLE will indicate the amount that is contained in each pill or capsule. So for example a daily dose may have 50mg of OLE. Another important consideration is the amount of oleuropein in the product commonly expressed as a percentage. Good products will have up to 20% oleuropein. When taking any substance, two key considerations are how it will be processed (metabolized) in the liver and how the waste products will be dealt with often in the kidneys. Excessive doses of drugs or nutraceuticals may cause damage to these organs. Hence common sense and a careful reading of the manufacturer’s dire
