Is there a reason Sean Penn played Harvey Milk in MILK?
Well, if you take a look at the real Harvey Milk, he does look alittle bit like Penn. Penn is a remarkable actor, i loved what he said in his speech when he accepted the SAG award for Best Actor–“I didn’t play a gay man, I played a human being earning his rights for who he is”. That’s what I love about him. He takes risks. He envisions everything in acting. He’s worth calling someone an actor. Most guys like Will Smilth turns down movie roles just b/c their character has to kiss a guy. Sean Penn truly sees it as love, no matter what gender. He sees it as acting. When cameras are rolling, he’s Harvey Milk, not Sean. So, he plays as Milk. It’s incredible. Well deserved Oscar. & the story is just beautiful.
