Is there a real freedom of speech and expression in UK?
True free speech means that you can be racist, sexist, ageist and say anything you like about other religions etc, so the laws contradict each other. What has happened over the last few years in the UK is that free speech has been given a lower priority than all the others so free speech is no longer a concept.
Not any more the politically correct brigade have outlawed free speech unless of course you are a radical muslim cleric then you can make a speech on just about anything killing the British, dancing at a British soldiers death , Having a celebration on 9/11 ,Forcing Britain into becoming muslim , When that happens there ears turn to tin . But utter one word of resentment about mass immigration you are classed as a racist and can be prosecuted.
If there wasn’t free speech in the UK, a lot of people answering your question would have chosen a different wording. True, you can get into trouble for saying the f-word or similar publicly (and that can drag out into a national scandal), but I’m assuming that is also the case in the US or other states. Sadly, answers is a place nazis and yobs in general.
I don’t think there is real freedom of speech in any country in the world, let alone just the UK, lets face it, the IRA didn’t exactly thrive on what some people said in Ireland did they. Same can be said of pretty much any country .. extremists, due to the PC way of the world, will get into Politics and eventually main-stream too. Why is this so ? … Because in the early 80s some lawyers in the USA decided that rather than throwing out litigation cases that were ridiculous, they paid out. Now that precedent has been set the world follows like a dumb (do not take as a anti-PC word … dumb as in daft, before the lawyers step in) sheep into a motorway of stupidity. Now it will only continue to the point where the public will fight back against it. I only hope it isnt too bloody.
Yes, there is real freedom of expression and speech in the UK, within the restrictions of laws on slander and incitement. The usual mob have come on here and claimed they can’t express their views, but none of them have been prosecuted for presenting an opinion; or even told by anyone in authority that they can’t express their opinion. Most of these people don’t just want freedom of speech – they want it without criticism as well. They want to say what they think, but don’t want other people to be able to say “you’re talking rubbish” or even “you’re talking racist nonsense”. Can anyone claiming curtailment of their right to free speech in UK (within the law) actually offer any evidence? I won’t hold my breath waiting. MECHANIC: Can you find one single example of someone in UK who has been successfully prosecuted for expressing their opinion on so-called ‘mass immigration’? No – because it’s a lie you made up.
