Is there a quote book that quotes the best lines from songs?
One book I can recommend is “31 Songs” by Nick Hornby. It contains short essays (some almost like quality blog entries) on a collection of songs that he likes, touching on what they mean to him and putting some biographical context (from the singers’ lives) to the moods, renditions, and lyrics. Not every entry quotes lines but some do. For instance, when he writes about “Thunder Road” by Bruce Springsteen, he links the last line of the song, “I’m pulling out of here to win,” to Springsteen’s theme of trying to achieve public validation. In another entry on “Smoke” by Ben Folds Five, we have “you keep saying the past’s not dead / well, stop and smell the smoke”, as Hornby walks us through the song’s extended metaphor of the history of a relationship being physically contained in the pages of a book, which can be burned away, page by page. The book also contains passages on songs by the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Ani DiFranco, Van Morrison and others. It may be a tad too detailed if all you’re
