I have done it when I downloaded the BBC HD test card. I uploaded the image to the SD card by using the camera. I then plugged the SD card into the Panasonic plasma TV for the purpose of setting up the TV. At the time I didn’t have a SD card reader. You can buy USB SD card readers for about $9.00, which I now have. When you plug your camera into the USB port it just appears as an external removable disk drive just the same as plugging in a flash memory drive into USB. Under windows explorer you can transfer files between the two as you please. No special program needed. Note: Only jpg files will be displayed on your digital camera screen. Any other type of image files like bitmapped, etc will not be display. Yes you can use your camera as a mobile viewing screen to show images to your friends they just have to be jpg ones.
