The most popular alternative I am aware of is Calc, which is part of the free open source download OpenOffice. I have no personal experience with the program, but my father, who works in finances, has made the switch from Microsoft Office to OpenOffice and has nothing but good things to say about it. It doesn’t look like you can download just Calc, but you may be able to pick what programs are installed during setup. Here is more information about Calc, and here is a link to download OpenOffice.
