Is there a practice/experiment that is presentable that shows oil spills?
Answer Jimmy: 1. Some times the oil is re-used if it has been in contact with the ocean only. However if it is in contact with the land, it most often contaminated with solids and it is used as fuel in an incinerator to help clean up other soil and oil contaminated materials. 2. The new double hulled tankers are a promising way of reducing pollution. The next best way is to figure out some way of generating the energy or fuel in a different way. That’s a good research topic for you if you are interested. 3. There is a practical experiment. It involves making your own beach with salt water and some sand in a plastic pail. Then pour light oil (cooking oil) on the water and slosh it around to contaminate the beach. You can also add a couple of popsicle sticks and feathers to the beach to simulate wood and birds. Now try and clean up the beach once it is contaminated with oil. Repeat the experiement using motor oil rather than cooking oil and try and clean the sand and the feathers. You wi
