No, there is no policy in place. A group of ECSE educators participated in a self-study last school year and developed a best practice recommendation that was supported by materials from MDE as well as professional journals. A major component of the best practice included inclusion of ECSE kids with nondisabled peers. There will be no formal policy developed regarding this issue. Districts make their own decisions regarding service provision of special education services. 2. WHEN WE HAVE A STUDENT WITH AN ECSE LABEL AND THE STUDENT WILL BE ENTERING KINDERGARTEN IN THE FALL, ARE TEAMS TO EVALUATE THE STUDENT IN THE SPRING, WHEN TURNING 7, OR AT THE END OF THEIR KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL YEAR TO DETERMINE IF ELIGIBLE FOR A NEW CATEGORY? This is again a decision made individually for each student.
