Is there a police department that does not have an age limit to become a police officer?
If you have a little patience, I think you will see this ‘trend’ of having an age cap disappear. I know a lot of PD’s in Arizona, New Mexico, Southern Cal and Nevada have either removed the age limit from their qualifications or ‘overlook’ it in the hiring process. Nationwide, there is a awakening that hiring older (not old) folks as Police Officers is a good thing. Most young guys still party, run around and haven’t fully learned to control their tempers. Yes, it’s a generalization but it’s also true. Older guys have learned through 35-40 yrs of life experience how to TALK to people as opposed to relying on their strength or the uniform to do the work for them. Like I said, hang on a bit, and I think you’ll see the tide changing to relaxed age limits. Departments nationwide have done studies or gathered stats that show older officers, whether more time on the force or older in age, have fewer liability issues and get fewer complaint.
