Is there a mathematical relationship between the holes in peg board?

I spent a lot of time in the family hardware store. I remember when peg board was gather steam as a merchandising tool. Before pegboard, hardware stores were not self-service. You had to ask the person behind the counter for whatever you wanted. They then dug it out of little drawers behind the counter. Nails came in wooden barrels. Grass seed came in canvas sacks. Blister cards and skin packaging was an innovation from the early ’60s. I can still weigh out close to a pound by hand first try as a result of early programming in the hardware store.
