Is there a map that shows the exact temperature and cloud cover for various neighborhoods in San Francisco?”
It is absolutely true. I know this because I have lived in San Francisco my whole life, and I have experienced this phenomenon first hand. The hills are colder than the valleys. There’s more fog in the Lakeside, Sunset, and Richmond districts. Downtown gets more sun. The reason for this is obvious if you look at San Francisco’s physical geography. Fog typically rolls in from the ocean until it hits the hills where it breaks up. The pattern, speed, and direction of the wind plays a big part in this. This site shows you check the current temperature, wind, and other factors from different weather stations throughout the city. Checking it right now I see almost twelve degrees difference between my neighborhood and another.
