IS THERE A MANDATORY RETIREMENT AGE FOR FALL PREVENTION ITEMS LIKE HARNESSES AND LANYARDS?

There is no firm rule to retire equipment from service. Each manufacturer has different rules. Our rule is that fall protection equipment is good to use as long as it continues to pass inspection. There has been some discussion in the ANSI A10.32 committee about limiting the life of soft goods (web items) to 5 years, but this has not been formally enacted, and the committee is strongly considering dropping the usage life from the rule.
