You may want to hire a car to drive around lake Como to visit the different villages…they’re all beautiful…but listen the advice of an Italian man (I lived 80km from Milan I’ve been there lots of times but never in the car) leave the car in Como and jump on the train. The public transport network in Milan its good enough, but if you feel adventurous then GOOD LUCK!!! About the parking you will find it relatively easy in Como but you will have the usual difficulties everywhere else around the lake…but I don’t think its bad enough not to rent a car.
