Is there a link between child sexual abuse and promiscuity in adolescents/adulthood?
There are strong links between childhood sexual abuse and adolescent / adult promiscuity. A child is constantly learning and developing -if they experience sexual abuse it is going to have an impact on them psychologically. Children are socialised in to the values, norms and expectations of society, their family and of themselves throughout childhood. If a child experiences sexual abuse then they are being sent certain messages and being forced in to adopting certain behaviours and coping mechanisms etc alongside the hundreds of other behaviours and norms they are also learning at the time.Thus, sexual abuse can have a profound effect upon the victim, teaching them about how to behaviour and how they view themselves within their family, community and society -often in a negative way.
