Is there a legal definition for special education case manager/IEP case manager?
Dear Linda: There is no legal definition or even requirement for a case manager in the federal IDEA (special education) law. It may be found in some states’ special education laws, but more often it is just an administrative decision by the school system as to how they organize the special education program to ensure that one person is coordinating the services for each child that is eligible for special education. However, the school’s policies and job descriptions for case manager, if they use them, are a public record and should be provided to you if you request them in writing.
