Answer Marvin, The recoil difference between the two is negligible. You probably wouldn’t even notice a difference. The big difference is the muzzle velocity. The .22 WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire) or .22 Magnum in common parlance is capable of much higher muzzle velocities. To give an example, the muzzle velocity of .22WMR at 125 yards is equal to the muzzle velocity of a .22 LR as it exits the barrel. Just understand that the gun must be chambered for .22 WMR. The cartridge is longer and has a larger diameter than the .22 LR. The projectile is the same size but the case needs to be stronger to handle the higher pressures of the magnum round. A gun chambered for a .22 LR cannot shoot the .22 WMR. There are a fair number of rifles calibered in .22 WMR from well known manufacturers. Pistols are a little hard to come by in this caliber.
