Is there a hidden meaning to alice in wonderland?
I studied it at uni, and basically, the stories were composed by him to entertain a little girl (who was called Alice in real life) on boat trips they took together. There are very strong sexual undertones “drink me” etc and a lot of people generally think Lewis Carroll was a bit of a weirdo, but as for hidden meanings these could be numerous and very personal to him. He was not a known drug user though. However the Caterpillar is an Opium smoker and there are several characters which represent political figures at the time (I can’t remember which, I found that aspect a bit boring.) – so it’s probably just him amusing himself whilst telling children a story, like when you watch children’s films when you’re older and realise you missed out on tons of innuendos!
