Is there a Heart and Stroke Foundation diet?
The Heart and Stroke Foundation warns the public to be wary of a diet claiming to be the Heart and Stroke Foundation diet. This is a fad diet that is neither endorsed nor developed by the Foundation. This diet may be referred to under a number of names, such as, The Heart diet, The Heart Foundation diet, or The American Heart Association diet. Fad diets often provide unrealistic menus or suggest the diet be followed for a specific length of time. The Heart and Stroke Foundation urges all Canadians to eat a healthy, balanced diet that is lower in fat and includes a variety of foods from each of the four food groups (vegetables and fruit, grains including whole grains, milk and alternatives, and meat and alternatives) from Canada’s Food Guide every day. A diet that varies significantly from the Food Guide should only be followed when under the supervision of a qualified health professional, such as a registered dietitian.
