No, but the States Parties, as far as possible, should try to comply with Article 8 (2) of the World Heritage Convention, which states that “Election of members of the Committee shall ensure an equitable representation of the different regions and cultures of the world” . (See also Resolution 12 of the Summary Record of the 7th General Assembly, 1989, doc. ref. CC-89/CONF.013/6 referred to above).
