Is there a future in TEFL teaching? Can I make a proper career out of it in Spain?
TEFL (actually, its only TEFL in the U.S., it’d be TESOL if you went abroad to teach it) has a future… its just not a well-paying future in Europe. I myself plan to teach English and western-style Management in Shanghai once I complete my Masters degree- China is practically the new world superpower all ready, and it would be good to have contacts in the country… perhaps learn a little Mandarin so that you have the edge when they finish building their infrastructure… seeing as how they practically bought out U.S. debt (meaning that U.S. taxpayers will be sending their money to Beijing for the next century or two). TEFL has a bright future in a world trying to compete in today’s market, China knows it, and is spending a whole lot of money to teach its students the language of international trade and business. However, it won’t last forever. Most people in Spain worth a dime can all ready speak English, and well. Unfortunately, prospects aren’t quite as great there.
