Is there a free program to write math formulas?

I am a high school math teacher and write most of my worksheets and all Tests simply in Word and by inserting Microsoft Equation Editor for the problems. So far, I have been able to find every symbol I have ever needed. I suspect it should work for Powerpoint, too, since it is also Microsoft. Try going to insert object, and insert it from there. Tip: Once you find it, click and drap it to yout toolbar so it’s there everytime you want to insert a new problem. Once I have used it in a document (test or whatever), I usuall just copy and paste from there for the next problem and change/edit as needed. I am aware of another called MathType, but I have never tried it. I have finally mastered Microsoft Equation Editor and it works for me.
