There is no formula for writing a hit song. You can make it easier by using chord progressions, though. Certain chords complement each other when played in certain progressions, and people say that that’s how you should write songs. However, there are as many good songs that follow chord progressions as those that don’t, and just as many good songs as bad songs that follow progressions. It just makes it easier to write one. Also, if you’re looking to make a hit, lyrics are important. So, you should probably make up a compelling story or interesting gibberish. Song writing gets easier the more you practice, so the first song you write may be difficult and uninteresting, but just keep at it.
