Is there a foreign language requirement for graduate school?
Yes. Most mathematics graduate programs demand a reading knowledge of one or two foreign languages. Often, these must be chosen from a specific list. Purdue only accepts French, German or Russian. If you have not had sufficient language study as an undergraduate, then you will probably need to take additional course work in graduate school. Most universities have reading classes designed specifically to help graduate students meet this requirement.
