Yes. The food pantry was formed in 1982 by volunteers Luella Schultz, Lola Odendahl, Audrey Allen, Betty Cutler, Helen Russell, Hazel Sletten, Helen Hill, Nancy Subdon and Dorothy Fairman. It was originally housed in the Green Rock City Hall basement. Some of those founding volunteers are still active in the group today. The food pantry is currently located in the rear of the Colona Police Department. They dispense food on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 10 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Commodities are handed out daily from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. To get information on the requirements, dates and times contact the Colona Township Office at 792-8774. There may be forms to complete before they can determine if you are eligible. The pantry helps about 48 families in a slow month. When there are plant closures they know they will see an increase in needy families.
