Is there a file checkout facility which stops other team members from updating documents?
AIM KMS supports “locking” of a document – which indicates to other team-members that someone is working on it. ICSync does not – it uses an optimistic locking strategy, which relies on its ability to detect conflicts and users to resolve conflicts when they occur. Pessimistic locking works best when users are connected to the document repository and can obtain and release locks promptly as required. Since it may be difficult to know which documents you will need to update when you’re working off-line, and a lock could only take effect when you synchronised with the remote repository, ICSync chose an optimistic strategy. Here’s how it works. If the server and the client have different version of a document, ICSync marks the document with conflict and asks the user to decide the accurate one.
