Hi jillofalltrades, Most of the middle of the road or better cameras offer this functionality – shutter priority as it’s called. I think only the entry level and some of the really compact cameras may not. In my experience you’re also better off with sticking to cameras from known camera manufacturers such as Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Fuji. Dpreview.com has an excellent Buying Guide that allows you to search for cameras based on various criteria. You should try it out, see if anything catches your eye. I did a very basic search – just set the minimum price, and Shutter Priority to ‘Yes’. You can add some additional features, maybe specify a minimum number of megapixels, etc. The results I got included the Canon Powershot A540 which is an excellent camera in its class.
