Is there a different curriculum for students in the AAL Laptop Program?
No. While using a laptop efficiently is an important part of AAL, it is not the primary reason for the laptop program. The computer is one of many tools used for learning the content of the class. The research shows that when students have access to a laptop computer anytime and anywhere, powerful changes begin to occur in those students’ school work and in their learning. The teachers do spend time teaching computer skills, but we find that the students master those skills very quickly. Therefore, not a great deal of time is spent on direct instruction of computer skills. All students use the same textbooks (paper and electronic) and take the same district benchmark unit tests. Do students take a keyboarding class at middle school? No. However, this is something that students can do on their own, using an online program. The keyboarding program that is used at the elementary and middle school levels is called Typing Master. Students log on here with their Walled Lake username and pass
