Is there a difference between oil configurations on lanes from PBA to other bowling leagues?
The oil configurations between the USBC and PBA are very different, except for when someone bowls in a PBA “Experience” League sanctiioned by the USBC. In that case, you would bowl on any of the selected oil patterns used by the PBA. The USBC oil patterns are slightly shorter, so “house shots” can help the most advanced bowler average above 210 most frequently, but that same bowler will lose about 10-15 pins in average on a PBA oil pattern because it’s made for bowlers to “think out” their shots, keep the ability of “speed control”, learn and be proficient at different shot trajectories, “read” the oil and be a lot more “mental” when playing the lanes. When I bowl in PBA Western regional tournaments, they mostly use the Cheetah (outside shot) or the Chameleon (always changing) patterns to keep us challenged and to keep our skill levels as high as the national exempt touring professionals. I’d say that most PBA lane conditions are laid down much like a puzzle onto a lane surface and we’
