Is there a difference between newspaper editorials and comments/opinions?

Democrat’s answer is close, but wrong. Comments/Opinion articles can be written by guest columnists or by newspaper staff (there are countless examples of each). They can have positions that agree with the newspaper, disagree, or are on topics that the newspaper doesn’t have an opinion on. Fundamentally though, they are the opinions of ONE PERSON (or a group of people, if the column was co-authored) but only represent what whoever wrote the article thinks. Editorials, on the other hand, can be writed by individuals, but are more often written by the entire editorial committee. They represent the views not of one person, but of the newspaper as a whole. While individual writers may disagree, that is what the newspaper’s view on a topic is. I hope that that answered your question. If you have more questions, just ask!
