Is there a difference between loving someone and being in love with someone?

If a cheating spouse says ‘I love you’ it should mean that he or she is in love with his or her spouse. However when such a spouse says ‘I love you’ but ‘I am not in love with you’ it means that they are actually saying ‘I don’t love you anymore and I am through with you’. It is pretty cruel and something that even a person who has lost his or her love for the spouse should never put across in that way. In any case one does not fall out of love with someone at the drop of a hat. The process is a gradual one and both partners would be aware that something is missing in their relationship. Before things get out of hand both of them should sit down and talk things over. They may be able to save their relationship.
