Is there a difference between dry and liquid measuring cups?
In this country, ingredients are measured by volume, while other parts use more accurate weight measures. Typically, a dry cup measure is the same as a liquid cup measure — a cup is a cup is a cup. But dry ingredients are best measured using a “scoop and level” technique. So sugar or flour is scooped with the dry cup, and leveled with a straight edge. This technique won’t work with a liquid measuring cup. And liquids cannot accurately be measured with a dry cup as they will spill and make a mess when trying to fill to the brim. Also, it is difficult to maneuver liquids in the kitchen using these puny cups. So make a smart investment in two sets of cups.
