Is there a difference between a balanced (XLR) interconnect and a single-ended (RCA) interconnect?

In a balanced circuit, there is a positive signal, an inverted signal and a separate ground. In a single-ended circuit, there is a positive and a negative signal. The negative signal acts as a ground, too. Our balanced interconnects are completely different from our single-ended interconnects. Each balanced interconnect has three conductors and two separate shields. Our single-ended interconnect has two conductors and two separate shields. Some of the balanced interconnects on the market are not real balance design.
