Depends on why you are asking and what you are using it for. In my shop, I use the Ultra-Black RTV. It is a multi-purpose sealant that I can use for high heat areas, oil and antifreeze areas, and its consistency is more like a paste than standard RTV which is more “gel-like”. Ultra Black is different than just the Black RTV, which can also be found in blue and red for water and high heat conditions. I use the ultra black instead of a gasket on areas like differential cover gaskets too. Most of today’s gaskets do not require and should not have any sealant on them, dont forget. There is also a spray gasket sealant called Hi-Tack that works very well too. Just as a good tip, I’ll throw this in: If you are replacing any engine gasket or a trans pan gasket, pay carefull attention to the bolt torque (may be on 7-10 foot pounds) and put a drop of thread lock compound on each bolt before installing them.
