All of the smaller diesel VW models have been withdrawn from the USA market due to the Ultra-low Sulphur diesel fuel for 2007’s onward, the limited availability of that fuel (some stations don’t seem to have it yet) and the 2007 emissions rules for diesels. Only the Touareg SUV is currently marketed in the USA as a diesel. In other markets (I’m told even as close as Canada) more VW diesel models are available. Apparently only Mercedes decided to keep all previous diesel models in their USA markup, with other imported brands mostly withdrawing their diesel models. Sources: http://www.vw.
