Bronchiectasis is disorder which occurs usually due childhood exanthematous fevers followed by pneumonia. The bronchial tree that is the air passage tubes in the affected lung are dilated and your secretion(sputum) stays back. This gets infected and form pus like. The best medical treatment is postural dainage( with the foot of the bed raised by putting blocks of wood under cot, sothat the secretions inthe lungs donot get accumalated. In addtion Bromhexine and other drugs for thinning of the secretions help.Only after getting X-ray examination like bronchogram the surgeon can decide the extent of lung involved.If affected lung is removed surgicallyit is curative.
