Chronic fatigue syndrome is defined as chronic fatigue persisting for more than 3 months without any obvious and demonstrable recognised alternative cause. Hypothyroidism can certainly cause chronic fatigue, but must be ruled out in order to make the diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome.
