Is there a bus that runs directly from Scarborough campus to St. George and back? (No.) Why not?
The shuttle bus issue is a very old one, with a long and interesting history. I can’t do the issue real justice here except to say that when you start crunching the numbers it gets pretty obvious, pretty fast, why there is no shuttle offered. Mainly it’s about dollars, since in order for the service to be practical at all it would need to run, say, every hour or so. For the number of students that would be on each bus the service would have to operate at a massive loss. This isn’t necessarily a reason not to do it but then you have to look at what else we could do for Scarborough campus with that amount of money and the question becomes one of cost vs. benefit. The fact is that during peak hours (when most students would be traveling anyway) traffic gets pretty clogged downtown and the best way to get where you are going at any reasonable speed is underground. That’s the whole theory behind the subway, after all. Running a bus straight to St.
