Is there a buddhist holy book?
There are numerous Buddhist scriptures. They are traditionally divided into three “baskets” or categories called the “Tripitaka”: • The Sutras (teaching of Sakyamuni Buddha) • The Vinaya (rules for monastic life) • The Abhidharma (Buddhist philosophy and psychology). Monasteries usually have a sutra library available for self-study. The traditional scriptures were originally written in Pali or Sanskrit a few hundred years after Sakyamuni Buddha entered Nirvana.
